Betting Outlook
Albus comes to the Kentucky Derby having run in two races this year already. He ran at Keeneland last October (Oct. 16) and finished in fourth place. The following month, he ran at Churchill Downs on November 29; he did better but finished in third. However, 2026 has gone much better for him as he has won at Tampa Bay (Feb. 27) and at Aqueduct (April 4). A sprinter, there is some concern that the distance (1 1/4 miles) could be too much for him. However, he proved he had the stamina for the 1 1/8-mile track at Aqueduct. It will be the first Derby for his trainer, Riley Mott, and the seventh for his jockey, Manny Franco (0-6 with a second-place finish in 2020). At +3000, he is a long shot for sure. While his speed is intriguing, his stamina is a concern on a longer track.
